ISLAMABAD: The construction of three wetlands is to be completed by CDA in the coming month.
The project is supervised and financed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), while the execution is under the Sanitation Directorate of MCI.
The function of the wetlands is to treat the contaminated water prior to its entry in Rawal Dam. The project entails construction of three wetlands at Muslim Colony Bari Iman, Banigala and Shahan Bari Imam. Contaminated water of nullahs will be diverted to tanks for sewerage treatment. After treatment, the water would be released back in the nullahs. To further purify the water before it enters the dam, soil is going to be implanted along the way.
The wetlands in the Muslim Colony will be functional within a couple of weeks after the rain spell passes. The nullah at Shahan Bari Imam with its high outflow due to the rain spell is hindering the progress of construction and is likely to be completed within a couple of weeks. The Banigala wetland will also start functioning around the same period.
