Rawalpindi: Feasibility studies have been launched to boost tourism in the hill tehsils of Murree and Kotli Sattian, with proposed projects including two chairlifts, glamping pod villages, a modern theme park, and Pakistan’s first sky glass bridge.
The Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) has allocated Rs150 million for the studies, which are expected to conclude within three months. Officials stated that these initiatives aim to improve tourist facilities and highlight the natural beauty of the Rawalpindi Division’s hill regions.
One chairlift is planned for the scenic Panj Peer mountain range in Kotli Sattian, while another will be developed at a newly identified tourist spot in Murree. The proposed sky glass bridge in Murree would be the first of its kind in Pakistan, offering visitors sweeping panoramic views.
Additional plans include jungle theme parks in both tehsils, with private sector participation expected in their development. TDCP also intends to expand glamping facilities, with two or three new sites under consideration to provide modern lodging options.
TDCP Managing Director Asim Raza said Kotli Sattian has been declared Punjab’s model tourism tehsil. “It is emerging as a promising tourist destination, rich with green forests, rugged mountains, waterfalls, and natural springs,” he remarked.
The initiatives will also encourage community involvement, with groups such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides expected to take part in tourism-related activities.
