Lahore: The Walled City of Lahore Authority has launched a large-scale conservation and restoration project in Old Anarkali, one of the city’s most historically and culturally significant districts. The project, with an approved cost of Rs1.097 billion, is expected to be completed by December 2027.
The restoration work will cover the historic stretch from Jain Temple to Lohari Gate, an area known for its architectural heritage and long-standing cultural importance. WCLA officials said the initiative aims to improve the area’s functionality and visual appeal while carefully preserving its historic identity.
Key elements of the project include upgraded street surfacing, enhanced landscaping, installation of an underground electrical network with improved street lighting, and the introduction of uniform shop signage. Directional signage will also be added to improve visitor navigation, alongside a mix of hard and soft landscaping to revitalise the streetscape.
According to officials, the project is part of a broader strategy to protect Lahore’s historic core, support cultural tourism and upgrade essential infrastructure without compromising the authenticity of the heritage precinct.
