KARACHI:      The Supreme Court partially lifted a ban on the lease, transfer and conversion of state land in Sindh. The provincial government was directed to consider lease applications for the areas where land records had been computerised.

The three-judge bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed also stated that the ban could be lifted on permanent basis if the provincial authorities computerise the land record across the province in true letter and spirit, as dictated by the apex court in 2012.

More than 60 petitioners who had submitted applications for various purposes would benefit from this decision. These include the Election Commission of Pakistan, Pakistan Air Force, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, some government universities, K-Electric, private firms and others.
