ISLAMABAD: In a bid to increase efficiency and streamline its monitoring process, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is equipping its officers with Geographic Information System (GIS) training.
CDA is carrying out the four-week capacity building programme in collaboration with the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) at the GIS lab in the CDA Planning Wing.
The training is expected to aid officers in enhancing their capabilities to monitor urban growth, urban sprawl, deforestation, encroachment and exercising building control in the federal capital with the help of satellite data and imagery.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the current training had been signed between CDA and SUPARCO earlier this year, with both parties agreeing to extend mutual cooperation in areas of public interest.
As per the MoU, CDA will also utilise the GIS technology to protect and expand the gradually diminishing green cover in Islamabad.
A management committee consisting of two officers from each organisation is managing and overseeing the joint management activities covered under the MoU.
