FWO initiates construction work of RRR

RAWALPINDI: The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has initiated the execution of the Ring Road Rawalpindi (RRR) project under the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA).

For this purpose, RDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza inaugurated the construction work by cutting the ribbon for this project at Thallian. Present on occasion were the Director-General RDA Tahir Zafar Abbasi, FWO team’s charge Col. Muhammad Irfan, and the Chief Engineer RDA Dr Habibul Haq Randhawa, along with other dignitaries.

Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza said the construction work of the main carriageway – 38.3 km long – from Baanth (N-5) to Thallian (M-2) under the RRR project would be completed in about two years.

He said the RDA had awarded an Rs22.8bn contract to the FWO for the mega project. He requested the FWO to expedite the work on this project.

He said the project’s major aim was to ease congestion in the urban transportation system of Rawalpindi & Islamabad. Moreover, fast and efficient routes for trade-related traffic and their linkage to other major cities would provide economic benefits to the local communities.

It is pertinent to state that the length of this project will be 38.3 km (8992 Kanals). The Punjab government had approved the project with a cost of Rs 33694.43 million. The project’s Land Acquisition cost is Rs 6724.73 million, and its overall construction cost will be Rs 26969.70 million.
