Karachi: The government is preparing plans to develop Ziarat Hassan Shah Island, located off Karachi’s coastline, into a modern and environmentally sustainable tourist destination as part of efforts to expand the city’s tourism and recreational offerings.
According to official sources, the project is expected to involve public investment exceeding PKR 1 billion, with additional private sector participation likely to bring in several billion rupees. The initiative aims to create a new leisure destination while preserving the island’s natural coastal ecosystem.
Development plans include the construction of visitor-friendly facilities designed to blend with the island’s natural landscape. To improve accessibility, the island will be connected by road to Karachi’s District East, allowing easier access for tourists and residents.
Officials said the project is expected to create employment opportunities, support tourism growth and offer a new recreational space for Karachi. The focus will remain on eco-friendly development that balances economic activity with environmental protection.
