Minister apprises NA regarding CPEC projects

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar informed the members of National Assembly (NA) regarding the details of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

The minister shared that the total cost of CPEC projects is approximately $50 billion, out of which 13 projects worth approximately $11bn are complete, 13 projects at a cost of $18bn are underway, whereas projects accounting for the remaining $21bn are in the pipeline.

In response to questions of the MNAs during the question hour session, the minister informed that the second memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China will secure the establishment of a joint working group under CPEC for elevation and execution of the Socio-Economic Development Project through Chinese government grants and interest-free loans under CPEC focusing on six sectors.

The sectors which have been identified for cooperation are agriculture, education, medicine, poverty alleviation, water supply, and vocational training.
