ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the construction work of the mega hydroelectric project under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, marking a notable achievement in the development of the country.
CPEC Chairman and Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting, Asim Saleem Bajwa also accompanied the Primer.
Speaking at the occasion, Khan informed that 4,500 MW of affordable, environmentally-friendly electricity will be generated.
In addition, around 1.2 million acres of the agricultural area in the country will be irrigated by using 6.4MAF (million-acre feet) of water, under the hydel power project.
The construction of the third-largest dam in Pakistan will boost investments in the cement and steel industry sectors
The project scheduled to be completed in 20208 will help generate over 16000 jobs.
Further addressing, the PM revealed the government’s plan to will work on developing more dams. Through this, Pakistan will be cable of generating electricity from water instead of furnace oil or coal and play its part in mitigating the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change.
Additionally, this will also help reduce the pressure of foreign exchange on the national economy.
