ISLAMABAD: Polythene bags will be completely banned in Islamabad from Aug 14, said Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul while addressing an event for the ‘Plastic Bags Se Azadi’ campaign at NHA headquarters.

She further urged government organisations, civil society member and the media to cooperate for the effective implementation of the campaign.

MNA Sumera Khan, Climate Change Senior Joint Secretary Hammad Shamimi, NHA Member (Admin) Capt. (R) Mushtaq Ahmed and Senior NHA and officials of the Communications and Climate Change Ministry were also present.

The usage of 55 billion plastic bags annually in the country is alarming. Hence elimination of plastic waste is an integral part of the Prime Minister’s Clean and Green Pakistan Programme, as they affect the environment and are also a cause of floods.
