RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing has announced that all the new residential buildings in the country would abide by laws to construct earthquake-proof designs, reports MEP Middle East.
The introduction of the new laws and regulations is in line with the Saudi Building Code.
Moreover, further amendments to building codes have also been announced through two royal decrees. Officials have also suggested changes to the Kingdom’s Building Code Application Law.
According to reports, the Ministry has instructed the engineering offices and relevant authorities to adhere to new regulations.
In addition, the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing has stressed the need to construct structurally sound buildings which is the need of the hour considering the havoc that has been caused in Turkey and Syria after it was hit by a 7.8 earthquake.
