Sindh releases Rs32bn for uplift projects

KARACHI: Chief Minister (CM)  Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, on Monday,  directed the provincial finance department to release Rs32.4 billion for the timely completion of ongoing development projects. Funds for local bodies worth Rs6007.6 million against monthly OZT share and grant-in-aid have already been released.

The CM House issued a statement stating that the CM said that Sindh was the only province to have released funds in the first week of the financial year 2021-22. 

Mr Shah further said that in 1999, the octroi zilla tax was abolished. Hence, the government released the finances at the regular fiscal transfers at 2.5% of OZT. 

As per the chief minister, administrative structure of local councils in the province comprise 24 district councils, 7 district municipal corporations,  3 municipal corporations, 1 metropolitan Corporation, 147 town committees, 9 municipal committees and 1526 union councils. 

Mr Murad Ali Shah stated that Karachi was the focus of the current government and efforts were directed towards its development. He added that the city has 9 major councils and 247 UCs.
