ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to inaugurate world’s largest Miyawaki forest in Lahore today as part of Billion Tree Tsunami project in a bid to combat climate change.
According to details, the Miyawaki forest will cover an area of over 100 kanals in which a total of 165000 plants will be planted. Due to the Miyawaki technique of plating urban forests, the plants are expected to grow exponentially.
The technique employs unique planting methods in which land is prepared and indigenous varieties of plants with differing growth rates are planted to produce fast growing forests.
As per a press release, PM Imran Khan said that the government was determined to plant the lungs of Lahore and beautify the city of gardens to its previous glory.
For this purpose, the forests will be planted at 53 different sites in Lahore over 2.5 years in order to reduce the carbon footprint of climate change.
