DGKC is primarily involved in the production and distribution of clinker, ordinary Portland cement, and sulphate-resistant cement. Graana.com provides a detailed overview of the DG cement company below.

About D.G. Cement

D.G. Cement has established itself as a progressive and one of the most reputable cement companies in Pakistan, as evident from its impressive track record.

It has implemented robust and efficient systems across all areas, which have been continuously developed and improved. Also, it places significant emphasis on ethics and adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

Products of DG Cement

DG cement offers various types of cement products, which are as follows:

  • Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)
  • Sulphate Resistant Cement (SRC)

Properties of Ordinary Portland Cement

DGKC ensures the highest quality of ordinary Portland cement for its customers. With a focus on zero defects, the company utilises automatic quality control through online X-ray analysers and computer-controlled systems to guarantee exceptional strength of the cement.

The Quality Control department conducts regular checks and analysis of various raw materials, intermediate products, and final products to ensure additional quality checks. The chemical composition and grinding fineness are also closely monitored.

At DGKC, the cement is designed to have an ideal setting time. The initial setting time is quick enough to allow sufficient time for application, while the final setting time is not too long.

This helps ensure that the cement is easy to work with while also providing a reliable and long-lasting final product.

Sulphate Resistant Cement

The D.G sulphate resistant cement is designed to combat the harmful effects of sulphate attacks on concrete. The sulphate salts present in certain soils can react with moisture and tri-calcium aluminate (C3A) – one of the constituents of cement – to form a compound known as sulpho aluminate of hydrated calcium, which gradually destroys concrete.

However, the D.G sulphate resistant cement has a very low C3A content, rendering it inert and preventing this destructive reaction.

It achieves high strength through finer grinding and better particle distribution. In addition to that, it exceeds not only the standards specified for sulphate resistant cement but also those of ordinary Portland cement.

The presence of alkali in certain aggregates can result in the expansion and cracking of concrete under unfavourable conditions. Alkali can also cause staining and other undesirable effects on concrete.

To combat this, the D.G. sulphate resistant cement has an alkali content below 0.6%, meeting the U.S. standards for low-alkali cement. This ensures high-quality and long-lasting concrete structures.

Quality Control at DG Cement

DG Khan cement is committed to implementing the highest quality control procedures to ensure and improve the quality of both its products and operations. The quality of cement is achieved through various measures, including:

  • Having complete control over the production process, inspections, tests, as well as financial workflows such as purchasing, sales, inventory management, and delivery.
  • Optimising cement production while maintaining consistent product quality, taking into account cost factors and environmental considerations.
  • Maintaining all plant machinery and equipment in optimal condition to prevent any breakdowns or process errors.
  • Ensuring all employees are aware of their responsibilities and have the necessary qualifications to effectively carry out their duties.
  • Conducting planned audits and reviews to ensure the effective implementation and ongoing suitability of this policy. It makes necessary revisions or modifications, and ensuring continual improvement of the quality system.

DG Cement Share in Market

The cement market in Pakistan is a competitive one with multiple players. The industry is divided into two regions: the north and the south. The northern region includes Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, FATA, and PATA, while the southern region consists of Sindh and Balochistan.

DGKC, one of the key players in the industry, produces and sells OPC and SRC with the former accounting for 95% of total sales. The company has a robust network of more than 2,200 dealers across Pakistan. They supply their internationally accredited products, making it easier for them to cater to far-flung areas.

Furthermore, the customers are loyal to DG cement due to the company’s strict adherence to standards, quality assurance, and timely supply. DGKC has also made extensive arrangements with a few banks to provide standard banking services to customers in all areas.

Furthermore, the company’s local sales are divided into two parts: dealers and institutional sales, with the majority of sales being done through dealers and only 6-8% under institutional sales.

More than 90% of company sales are on an advance payment basis. The DG cement company also exports its products to Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka, and various countries in the African continent.

The majority of the exports are on an advance payment basis, with the rest against a letter of credit. Approximately 35% of exports are through sea, while the rest are transported by road.
