Rama Lake is located in the Gilgit-Baltistan northern areas, near the town of Astore. Due to illegal logging, the Astore has lost forests, resulting in fewer oak trees, vegetation, and rainfall.

The Rama Valley has a dense growth of trees like cedar, large pine, fir, and trees of juniper. Because it’s about 3300 metres above sea level, the valley is covered in snow for about 7 to 8 months yearly. In the season of summer, it becomes a lush and green paradise, which local shepherds appreciate.

Graana.com has prepared a guide on Rama Lake Astore, including its weather, location and much more.

From a rough path near the PTDC Motel Rama, a small walk of about 2 to 3 kilometres goes steeply uphill. The PTDC hotel in Rama offers travellers a cosy place to stay and provides services to meet its customers.

The actual town of Rama is named Astore and is inside Baltistan’s administrative borders. The Astore is close to the Karakoram Highway and offers an easy connection to the main road via a road with a metal surface. There is a narrow path leading to Astore and an even smaller road leading to Rama village.

Both routes require more energy and time to cover one kilometre compared to the usual roads found in other places. Even though the distance to Rama village is around 55 kilometres, it takes about three to four hours to get there.

The hike begins from the last parked vehicle and lasts the entire day, but it is a highly rewarding experience. Once you arrive at the lake, all of your fatigue instantly vanishes.
